Urbandale Club Basketball - Urbandale Community Education

PHILOSPHY

Formed in 2016, the Urbandale Club Basketball Program is open to boys and girls in grades 3rd – 8th. Following the philosophy of the boys and girls high school programs. Club Basketball focuses on fundamental basketball skill development while promoting sportsmanship and work ethic.

PARTICIPATION

The purpose of the program is to provide Urbandale students the opportunity to play together in a competitive format.

GAMEPLAY

Urbandale Club Basketball teams will participate in local leagues for the first half of the season and 5-7 local / non-local tournaments for the second half of the season. Urbandale Club Basketball players will compete against competitive teams from surrounding communities and, in some instances, around the state. Tournaments are selected by individual team coaches with assistance provided by Urbandale Club Basketball staff.

Local League Play: October – December
Tournament Play: December - March

TEAM FORMAT & ELIGIBILITY

If numbers permit, a minimum of 1 team will be offered at each grade level (3rd – 8th) for both boys and girls living in Urbandale or attending the Urbandale Community School District. Each roster will have 8-10 players.

Teams will be formed based on tryout performance, however, when there are multiple teams for a grade, teams will be blended together for practice. We will not designate an A/B/C for team in 3rd - 5th grade, but instead will handle each tournament based on student availability and competition level. The talent level will be distributed on a week to week basis depending on the upcoming tournament. The 6th grade team will be determined after the tryout period to see if they should use a blended format or A/B/C format based on numbers and skill level. The 7th and 8th grade teams will use a A/B/C format but will still practice on the same nights and in the same gym. Pre-existing teams will not be maintained.

PRACTICE

Teams will be provided 1-2 practices per week at one of the district’s gymnasiums after all school activities have concluded, typically between 6:00 PM – 9:00 PM. Urbandale Club Basketball will make every effort to schedule teams of the same grade level together. This is done to allow Urbandale High School coaches to attend and assist with practices in an efficient manner.

PLAYING TIME

While equal playing time is not the objective, each player will have an opportunity to play in each game. Playing time will be at the coach’s discretion and is based on practice and game performance, attitude, game situation and skill.

REGISTRATION

The deadline to register for Urbandale Club Basketball is August 21, 2019. Late registrations will be dealt with on a case by case basis. Registration is available online at UrbandaleCommunityEd.com.

There is a $25.00 tryout fee due by August 21, 2019. If a player is invited to join a team, families will be invoiced the $310.00 participation fee. The $310.00 participation fee is not required until the student has been selected and the amount will be due by October 1, 2019. Individuals who have not paid by this deadline, will not be allowed to practice.

Registration is $300.00 and includes shooting shirt, practice time and 1 league registration and 7 tournament registrations.

COACHING

Interested applicants may apply by August 31, 2019. Head and Assistant Coaches will be selected by the Urbandale Club Basketball Advisory Board prior to tryouts. All coaches much submit to a background check. Each team is going to require that a head coach and assistant coach are on the bench at all tournament.

There will be a $200.00 administrative stipend to those selected to serve as a head coach and a $100.00 administrative stipend to those selected to serve as an assistant coach. These amounts will be deducted from the total due from that coach’s student.

All coaches will be required to attend a pre-season coaching clinic conducted by the Urbandale High School Boys and Girls Varsity Basketball coaches. In addition, coaches will receive assistance with skill development and practice plans.

Coaching candidates will be notified by September 10, 2019 if they have been selected to coach.

*Due to some constuction conflicts, the start time for the open gyms have been pushed back by 15 minutes to accomodate high school practices.
