Caregiving Years
This program is presented by Kathy Koenig, M.S., CCC, CCE a Certified Caregiver Consultant and Educator. Caregiving for a family member or friend impacts approximately 34.2 million people per year. Roughly 317,000 Iowans are included in that number. They provide 295 million hours of unpaid care annually with an economic value of $3.86 billion.
Most of us either know of someone who is caregiving or has been a caregiver. Perhaps you are that person. Individuals and families are impacted by the significant physical, emotional, mental, financial, and spiritual efforts that accompany caregiving. This 6-stage program, developed by Denise Brown, identifies phases and steps to help caregivers recognize elements of each stage, manage their stress, and find ways to care for themselves and thrive throughout the process.
The Six Stages are broken down as follows: The Caregiving Years will be broken down into three segments each covering two segments of the process.
- Expectant Caregiver
- Freshman Caregiver
- Entrenched Caregiver
- Pragmatic Caregiver
- Transitioning Caregiver
- Godspeed Caregiver

- FEE: $25.00 ($30.00 after September 24)
